Letters Home: to cole from chicago

Cole,

Your city is beautiful.

Last night on the phone you told me that you were excited I was here. “The smells and the sounds around you — that is the same air that brought me into this world. Think about that while hou are there man… That is the area where your brother cole was born.” Today I left my writng and have been riding the train. I get off every few stops just to smell the air and all it’s combinations.

You heard me on the radio yesterday while you worked in your garden in Olympia. I was talking about the protests – I thought the interview was rather mumbly. Now I am stressing about how to write about St Paul. The experience is a tumble of words. It all matters and it is never enough.

You always say something something like: Breathe deep, it’s what gets you through.

Oh, and I think I have met the most beautiful woman in chicago who works at the cafe. She is russian and about my age. But now I am surrounded by such beautiful people that I cannot be sure anymore. They are all shapes and sizes.

Thank you brother. We have seen each other through some times, haven’t we?

Logan

Chicago’s the best city in the US, possibly anywhere. And no, I’m not biased in the least bit. (ROGER’S PARK!)
